CNC milling is a manufacturing process with computerized controls and rotating tools to progressively remove material from the solid plastic or metal blocks to produce a custom designed part. The material is fixed onto the four-axis or five-axis milling machine table, then the tool selected by the program from a rotary cutting tool set rotates at a very high speed, for example, 10k to 40k RPM, to cut the material to the designed shape.
1. Consistency
All the movements including the selection of tools are driven by the computer program which is derived from a 3D model of the designed part. So all the parts machined with the same program have the same dimension and geometry features. It eliminates human error and provides highly consistent and accurate quality products.
2. Precision
CNC machine is a very high-precision machine with a robust supporting system, a precise rotating tool system, and a digitally controlled feeding system. With well-programmed driven data, it produces complex parts while achieving tolerances as tight as 0.005mm.
3. Productivity
CNC milling machine requires no operator once the raw material is on the milling machine. It is a fully automatic process without any adjustment. It can be 2X-3X faster than conventional milling machines.
4. Wide Range of Material Selection
CNC milling machines can produce parts with a wide range of materials, including plastics, aluminum, brass, steel, and zinc. It covers the material for most of the parts.
CNC turning is a manufacturing process that removes material from rotating rigid workpieces with a non-rotating tool driven by a computer program. CNC turning usually is used for making cylindrical parts. It is the best way of making grooves, knurling, and threads. To make some very complex parts, we need both the CNC milling and CNC turning to make different features.
What are the advantages of CNC turning?
1. Accuracy
With CAM program, the machine can perform rigorous measurements and eliminate any human errors. Our precision CNC turning machines provide high dimensional and geometrical accuracy regardless of the production quantity. It is a good process for making prototypes and production parts.
2. Repeatability
The speed of turning, and the moving path of the tool are controlled by the CAM program. The movement of the workpiece and tool are exactly the same from part to part. This is very important for high volume production.
3. Cost Effective
The automatic feeding and machining process saves a great deal of time. There is no operator required for the process. There is much less material waste because of the consistent quality. All the above means cost saving.
